Clarinetist Gary Gray enjoys a versatile career as a concert artist, Hollywood studio recording musician and Professor of Clarinet at the University of California at Los Angeles. Former Principal Clarinetist of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, he is most recently concertizing with the Pacific Serenades Chamber Ensemble, the Dilijan Gary Gray and quote, "...he handled the clarinet solos with stunning ease...chamber series and the Alexander and New Hollywood String Quartets.

Mr. Gray's most recent recording for Centaur Records with the New Hollywood String Quartet was assisted by Robert Thies, piano and Richard Todd, french horn; it includes Brahms' Quintet for clarinet/string quartet, Op. 115 and Dohnanyi's Sextet Op. 37 for clarinet / horn / piano / violin / viola / cello.

A DVD of the 2008 Grammy Award Concert is available at the new
Grammy Museum at LA LIVE in downtown Los Angeles.

During his long career in Hollywood, Gray has recorded the film scores for over 1,000 movies and countless TV shows. Most recently Gray performed the clarinet solos for the movie Public Enemies starring Johnny Depp and Christian Bale, with music by Elliott Goldenthal, which was released in June. He also played the clarinet solos on a documentary which premiered in June at the Writer's Guild, called Their Eyes Were Dry directed by Brandon Assanti with a score by Roger Bolton. This will be released nationally at a later date.

The score he played for Thomas Newman for WALL-E has helped this film's success and is the latest of the many films he's worked on with Newman, since their first collaboration in 1994's Shawshank Redemption. Gray continues to play background music for Fox Television shows, such as "American Dad" with Walter Murphy, through the 2008-2009 season.

Some of  film/TVcomposers who Gray has worked with over the years include: Thomas Newman, John Williams, Henry Mancini, Jerry Goldsmith, Lalo Schfrin, James Horner, Shirley Walker, Randy Newman, Christopher Young, Alf Clausen, Don Davis, Bruce Broughton, Paul Chihara, Christopher Caliendo, John Debney, Ron Jones, Walter Murphy, Elliott Goldenthal...among many others.

Other recent CD recordings have been with such pop and jazz artists as: Bill Cunliffe, Aretha Franklin, the Dixie Chicks, Jewel, Paul McCartney, Beyonce, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban, Brad Meldau.. Gray has performed live with many of these same artists as a member of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
